Chakras, Colors & Foods

The Chakras are considered the centers of spiritual power and energy within our bodies.  There are seven chakras that each correspond with a different color.  There are also certain colored foods that correspond to each chakra and can be used for energy by way of nutrition.  Here, we will look at the seven chakras, their color, and food correspondences.

Foods vibrate at different colors.  The foods we eat exhibit various colors that possess different nutritive effects.  This can be thought of as energy nutrition.  Foods of the same color usually have the same nutrients.  For example, red foods have high sources of vitamin B, such as red meat and beets.  Foods like lemons and spinach are rich in Vitamin C.  They correspond with the colors yellow and green.

The Chakras, Colors, and Food Correspondences

The Root ChakraThe Root chakra, located at the base of the spine, is represented by red.  This is the chakra that has to do with our will power, our survival instincts, and grounding to the earth.

To balance your first chakra, work with the color red.  Consume root vegetables that grow beneath the ground.  These vegetables absorb a high number of vitamins and nutrients from the earth’s soil.  They are rich in antioxidants, Vitamin C, and beta-carotene.  For vegetables, include such items as turnips, sweet potatoes, onions, turmeric, and ginger.  For fruits, consume pomegranates, raspberries, beets, red apples, and strawberries.  Some spices for the root chakra may be cayenne, paprika, and cayenne.

The Sacral Chakra – This chakra is located below the navel and corresponds with the color orange.  It has been associated with the kidneys, the adrenals, our reproductive system, sexuality, and pleasure.

You can balance this chakra by eating orange-colored foods with diuretic properties.  Drinking plenty of water also helps.  Some foods that correspond with this chakra are carrots, orange peppers, mangos, peaches, and apricots.  Other foods that work well with this energy center are those rich in omega-3’s, such as fish, nuts, flax seeds, and walnuts.  These foods all aid in overall cardiovascular health and in reducing inflammation.

The Solar Plexus Chakra – The Solar Plexus Chakra is located between the navel and sternum.  It is represented by the color yellow.  This chakra is associated with the digestive system, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder.  You can work with this chakra to help you obtain empowerment, positivity, and overall well-being.

Yellow foods resonate with the solar plexus.  Yellow is also a natural mood enhancer.  Complex carbohydrates and whole grain foods are also good for this chakra such as oats, grains, and rooted vegetables.

The Heart Chakra – The Heart Chakra is represented by the color green.  It is associated with the heart, lungs, and immune system.  It is associated with love, the nervous system, mental focus, empathy, and compassion.

You can help balance your heart chakra by consuming green, raw foods.  Some examples of these foods would be leafy vegetables, kale, and spinach.  These foods all aid the body with mineral-rich nutrients.

The Throat Chakra – The Throat Chakra is represented by the color blue.  It is associated with the thyroid, metabolism, speech, and expression.

To help balance your fifth chakra, consume blue colored foods. Examples of these foods would be blueberries, blackberries, and foods that help nourish the thyroid.  Consuming restorative liquids such as herbal teas and coconut water also help this chakra to function optimally.

The Third Eye Chakra – This chakra is located in the middle of the forehead.  It corresponds to the colors blue and indigo.  The third eye chakra has been associated with the pituitary gland and pineal gland. This energy center influences our sleep cycle, dreams, imagination, and psychic abilities.

Consume purple and deep blue colored foods to help balance your third eye chakra.  Some examples of blue-purple foods include acai berries, figs, purple cabbage, purple carrots, and blackberries.

The Crown Chakra – This chakra energy center is located at the top of the head.  It corresponds with the color violet and is associated with dreams, higher consciousness, higher knowledge, intellect, and spirituality.  It can also correspond to the pineal gland.

To help balance the crown chakra, consume white-colored, and light foods.  Choose foods such as cauliflower, coconut, chia seeds, and onion.  Fasting also helps clear this chakra.
